Museum Exhibits
GALLERY XI - FORT WOLTERS
The
Fort Wolters exhibit will be formatted differently from the rest of
the museum. More traditional exhibits, - panels, artifact cases,
etc. - will tell the story of the military base where almost all helicopter
pilots in Vietnam received their initial training. An actual training
helicopter will be the centerpiece of this gallery, allowing visitors
to get up close and personal with the technology students had to master.
Artifacts
will include uniforms, patches, medals, documents, maps, briefing room
mockups, and possibly simulators used at this location during its many
years of service. In addition to its time as the US Army Primary Helicopter
Center, Fort Wolters' role as a National Guard base, World War II Infantry
training center, and Air Force base will be presented, giving the visitor
a complete view of its changing roles over the years.
