III - THE ADVISORS
Early
American involvement in Vietnam was primarily limited to advisory positions.
American soldiers worked with Vietnamese counterparts at various
levels assisting with training in strategy and tactics for the fledgling
South Vietnamese military. The centerpiece of this gallery will be a
replica of a Special Forces "A-Team" encampment.
Audio-visual
presentations of the role of the advisors as well as attendant artifacts
will depict the daily life of these men who were technically non-combatants,
and the rigors they experienced in the field with Vietnamese troops.
Also
depicted will be the efforts of Special Forces teams to win the "hearts
and minds" of Vietnamese villagers through civic action programs
and medical assistance. This gallery will also show the changes that
occurred with the arrival of increasing numbers of American troops,
and the involvement of other nations.
