V - TECHNOLOGY AND TACTICS
The
Vietnam War presented new challenges to the traditional military tactics
that the United States and other countries had been accustomed to since
the end of World War II. A military that had for years trained to fight
a conventional land war in Europe had to drastically restructure its
thinking, faced with a guerilla war in tropical jungles.
Among
other exhibits, visitors will be presented with a Viet Cong underground
tunnel complex to demonstrate one facet of the problems that faced military
planners in Vietnam. New tactics and technology to deal with this unconventional
war will be explored in this area.
The
"Brown Water" Navy and helicopter employment will be explored,
along with other new weapons systems and tactics. In addition, the major
military commanders for all participants will be included in this gallery.
