Museum
Financial Status Confirmed
The
National Vietnam War Museum recently received two pieces of information
that will assist in its short-term goal of breaking ground in July of
2004.
In
August, the Internal Revenue Service returned its findings granting
the Museum its permanent 501 (c) (3) status as a tax-exempt non-profit
organization. The museum was originally chartered under the 501(c) (3)
umbrella of the Fort Wolters Chapter of the VHPA, its founding organization.
Subsequently, the museum was granted an interim tax-exempt status pending
the findings of the IRS. Copies of the finding are on file with the
museums Board of Directors.
In
addition to the permanent 501(c) (3) status, the museum received the
final independent auditors report for the year ending December
31, 2001. After a thorough review, the firm of Crawford, Carter, Thompson
& Barron, L.L.P., Certified Public Accountants, issued a finding
that the financial statements of the museum fairly presented, in all
aspects, the financial position of the museum in conformity with generally
accepted accounting principles in the United States.
These
two findings allow contributors to the museum to feel comfortable about
the financial stability of The National Vietnam War Museum, and its
continued tax-exempt, non-profit status.
